Welcome to Skint Racing #55
We are a brand new race team set up in July 2014 with the intention of entering the Formula 400 series currently being run by BMCRC ‘Bemsee’.
We being myself, Sadie and my husband Nick have always been avid fans of any thing 2 wheeled and have travelled all over the UK and Europe to watch the racing. Our Honeymoon was spent at Laguna Seca!!!! We are running a completely standard Aprilia RS250 mk2 (apart from a set of Arrows pipes) putting out about 58-60 bhp against the rest of the field which comprises of mainly Kawasaki ZXR400’s a couple of FZR’s and a couple more strokers- Another Aprilia RS 250 mk1 and a TZR250.
There are three classes :-
1. The rookies (me)
2. The sub 64 bhp category (near enough stock bikes)
3. The main class. (anything goes!! Usually about 70 odd bhp)
Nick started riding at the age of 12 years old learning on a knackered Honda CB250G5 with full fairing and no clutch! Bump starts were the order of the day and if he fell off he had to go and find someone to help him pick it up!!! Over the years he has owned and ridden a variety of styles and sizes of bike from a Yamaha FS1E to a Ducati 996 but there was only going to be one choice if we were going racing and that had to be a two stroke.
We applied for our Race Licence in June 2014 and attended the classroom and on track training programme and entered our first race in March 2015 at Brands Hatch. All a bit scary really not having done this sort of thing before but what an amazing first race meeting that was. First race meeting resulted in three x fourth places and a trophy for third and that was in the pouring rain!! Yup were hooked.
We have fortunately gained a couple of sponsorship deals firstly with a local landscape gardener – Mr Spotch and literally last week we were approached by Worlds End Motorcycles – www.wemoto.com are a local motorcycle parts business based in Southwick and they are providing us with the majority of our spares and consumables. What a help this has been as it does get expensive!!! We are currently running second in the EDIasia Rookie 400 championship with a lead of over 50 points to third place as I type. Updates and blogs will be forthcoming…
